Fraxel FAQs- Your Questions… Answered

Are you thinking about a laser treatment, but aren’t sure where to start? The Fraxel laser is a popular, versatile choice and a patient favorite here at Key Laser. If the thought of lasers makes you think of a cheesy Sci-Fi film, keep reading. We’ll answer some of our most commonly answered questions about Fraxel below.

What Is Fraxel?

Fraxel is a powerful laser resurfacing treatment. It uses advanced resurfacing technology to isolate damaged cells and to promote the skin’s natural healing process for healthy new cells. Basically, the laser finds damaged skin cells and removes them, allowing your body to heal and produce healthy, new skin. It also encourages collagen production, one of the building blocks of vibrant skin.

What Skin Conditions Can Fraxel Treat?

Fraxel is incredibly versatile (it’s like the Meryl Streep of lasers), and can address many common skin complaints including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Mild acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Age spots
  • Melasma
  • Hyperpigmentation

We can help you determine if Fraxel is a good fit for you during a consultation. Call and schedule yours today.

I Have a Big Event Coming Up. How Early Should I Schedule My Fraxel Treatment?

Fraxel results are impressive, but it can take time to get your skin big event ready after treatment. Plan on a few days of redness and swelling followed by light flaking for 4-7 days. If you actually are Meryl Streep (we love you, Meryl!), we recommend scheduling your red carpet awards shows and other big events several weeks after a Fraxel treatment. For day-to-day events, you can generally use makeup to cover any redness after the first week.

How Many Fraxel Treatments Will I Need?

We generally recommend a series of three initial Fraxel treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. The treatment itself takes about an hour, but plan on being in our offices for about two hours start to finish.

Is Fraxel Painful?

Some patients find the Fraxel treatment to be slightly uncomfortable. We’ll apply a numbing cream before your treatment. You can also take Naproxen (Aleve) to minimize discomfort. Our Fraxel Dual Platform uses cold air flow to cool the skin and increase comfort during treatment.

What Should I Expect After a Fraxel Treatment?

You can return home shortly after your Fraxel treatment. You’ll want to take a few days off from work for recovery. Downtime varies depending on how aggressive your treatment is, but we’ll give you a better idea of what to expect during your consultation and pre-operative appointments. After treatment, you’ll likely experience redness, swelling, and flaking as the skin heals.
