DOT Therapy: Newest Breakthrough Technology in Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laugh lines, crow's feet, brown spots, and wrinkles are inevitable signs of aging, but all that is about to change thanks to the most advanced technology in laser skin resurfacing. Through a newly-formed alliance between Eclipse Medical, one of the country's leading aesthetic laser distributors since 1993, and DEKA, one of the world's largest and best-known laser manufacturers, DOT Therapy (Dermal Optical Thermolysis) is now the state-of-the-art procedure in laser skin resurfacing.

Douglas J. Key, M.D., a board certified, aesthetic-based dermatologist, is among the first skincare specialists in the U.S. to use DOT Therapy on his patients. Dr. Douglas Key is a recognized authority on laser skin resurfacing. As a published author, he is frequently sought after by his peers to both lecture and instruct in the United States, Europe and Asia on his specialty of lasers and the prevention and treatment of age-related tissue changes, and body contouring.

The SmartXide DOT system is an advanced CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser made in Italy by DEKA and has received clearance from the Food & Drug Administration. The CO2 laser is the most common type of laser used for skin resurfacing: thoroughly proven and tested. CO2 lasers of the past covered the entire surface of the skin, resulting in a significant amount of downtime to heal, discomfort for the patient and prolonged redness of the skin. In addition, the old CO2 lasers could not treat non-facial areas like the neck and décolletage easily because skin in these areas did not heal as well as the face.

"DOT Therapy wins the 'patients choice award' when it comes to skin resurfacing treatment," said Dr. Douglas Key. "My patients are delighted that we can now customize treatments to meet their exact skin requirements and are thrilled with the results: wrinkle-free, smooth, firm and radiant skin - without enduring pain or downtime."

DOT Therapy is taking laser skin resurfacing to a whole new level. The new procedure precisely delivers CO2 laser energy to targeted areas on the face or non-facial areas like the neck and décolletage, and effectively treats sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, and acne scarring. Unlike any other skin resurfacing CO2 laser, the DOT system is unique because it ablates a customized pattern of tiny, micro-sized dots, rather than the entire skin surface.
