Sclerotherapy, aka Injection Therapy

Sclerotherapy is fast and simple procedure, with minimal pain and side effects and one that requires no anesthesia. During your treatment, a micro-needle is used to inject a sclerosing solution - typically saline mixed with heparin and Lidocaine - directly into the offending spider vein. You might experience a mild cramping sensation for approximately a minute after the injection. Eventually, the solution causes the vein to collapse, where it is absorbed back into the body. In addition to spider veins, sclerotherapy treats the "feeder" vessels that cause them.

Following each 30 to 45 minute treatment, you'll see a progressive whitening of blood vessels. Typically, two or more procedures are required to fully treat spider veins. It can take your body several months to dissolve and finally absorb the problem veins. Depending upon the size of the treated veins, your best result will be seen 4 to 6 months after your last procedure.

Although injection therapy is usually the best method to clear the legs of the undesirable "web" of spider veins, a Gentle YAG™ may be preferable to sclerotherapy for the elimination of small-to-medium sized veins.
