How to Transition Your Skin Care Routine From Winter to Spring

Say goodbye to winter and embrace the warm weather! Temperatures are rising, and it’s time for spring-cleaning. Now’s the time when we organize the garage, rearrange closets, and put the house through rigorous dusting, scrubbing, and vacuuming. It’s also time to step up the protection plan for our skin by transitioning from our winter routine to adjust for the warmer weather.

During the colder months, your skin becomes dry and flaky due to lower humidity and dropping temperatures. Oils and heavy moisturizers are optimal treatments for winter skin, but not so good during the spring. Here are a few tips from us here at Key Laser Center for Cosmetic Regenerative Medicine to help you jumpstart your skincare for an excellent warm-weather skincare routine.

1. Clean Our Your Makeup Drawer

After hibernating in the warmth of the cozy indoors, now you should begin decluttering and re-assessing your skincare products. Spring is the perfect time to go through your makeup brushes, creams, and lotions. Get rid of any products past their expiration date and replace dry and abrasive makeup brushes that can irritate your skin.

2. Exfoliate Your Skin

At this time of year, our skin tends to be drier as we ease out of the winter months. Now is the time to exfoliate to remove debris and dead skin cells to promote skin rejuvenation. AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser by Skin Medica gently scrubs dead skin away, improving skin tone and texture.

If your skin is severely damaged, perhaps one of our laser treatments can do away with that dull, tired skin presence to replace with fresh, brilliant skin.

3. Stay Hydrated

Keeping your skin hydrated is a great way to refresh your body and stay healthy. It flushes unwanted toxins and encourages clearer skin. Drinking at least two liters of water daily combined with a quality moisturizer will have your skin glowing. Try adding cucumber slices to your water, sipping throughout the day. Also, our HA⁵® Rejuvenating Hydrator by Brilliant Distinctions is a soothing moisturizer that hydrates, protects, and restores your skin.

4. A Lighter Option

Warm weather is the time to transition to lighter textured face creams to keep your skin hydrated. Thicker creams when it’s hot may cause an overproduction of natural oils that clog pores, causing blemishes and a shiny complexion. Skin Medica’s Replenish Hydrating Cream will hydrate, nourish, and soothe sensitive skin.

5. Add a Layer of Protection

Winter is a time when you should encourage your skin to repair itself. During the warmer months, though, it’s time to shift from fixing to protecting. Adding a suitable SPF sunscreen to your daily routine is paramount in preventing dangerous UV rays from damaging your skin.

Total Defense Repair Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50 is a revolutionary superscreen that goes beyond UV protection. It will defend against the sun’s harmful infrared rays while helping restore your skin to a youthful glow.
