Dermal & Lip Fillers Portland
Introducing Sciton Dermal and Lip Fillers to Portland and Beaverton Patients
As we age, we lose our youthful face shape and start to see sagging, hallowing, wrinkles and furrows. Dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, Restylane® Silk and Voluma, are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. Injectable fillers put youthful shape back into your face.

When it comes to injectables, experience and technique matters. Proper use of injectables to achieve a natural look is an art form. Our medical team is led by a Board Certified Dermatologist specializing exclusively in aesthetic medicine.
Dr. Douglas Key has traveled the world to study the most advanced injection techniques. Dr. Key’s extensive research and study demonstrated that the best results are found when the smallest needles are used – microcannulas or needleless needles.
Key Laser has led the way in adopting microcannulas for lip injections and was among the first selected to offer Restylane® Silk – specially formulated for the tiniest lines.
Dr. Key and his injector team have personally injected tens of thousands of patients over more than 20 years and are medically trained in facial anatomy. They have the skill and artistry to create subtle lift and contour, naturally.

Before Your Filler Treatment
Before receiving dermal filler or lip filler, individuals should have a comprehensive understanding of the process. Prior to the procedure, it’s important to consult with Key Laser to assess skin suitability and review expectations. You should arrive at your appointment with a clean face. The area will need to be sanitized prior to receiving injections, so any remaining makeup will be removed. You can take some acetaminophen prior to your appointment to help minimize any soreness.
During Your Filler Treatment
Because we use microcannulas rather than needles, our lip, and dermal filler treatments are very well tolerated. Many of our fillers contain a mild anesthetic, and we can also use a topical numbing cream if needed.
Our medically trained injectors have years of experience in using fillers. Patients often say it was easier than they thought and that they didn’t feel a thing.
After Your Filler Treatment
Injectable fillers give immediate and noticeable results. Mild-to-moderate side effects can appear at the treatment site, including limited tenderness or swelling and bruising that may last up to a week. We only inject with microcannulas instead of needles, which have much less risk of bruising than traditional needles. Side effects vary based on the individual.
FAQs About Our Dermal and Lip Filler Treatments in Portland
Are dermal and lip injections painful?
You don’t always have to sacrifice comfort to look your best. Our filler treatments are very well tolerated, with most patients reporting little to no pain. Most of our fillers contain lidocaine, a mild anesthetic, in their formulation. Additionally, we use microcannulas, not needles, in a unique approach that is gentler to the skin and reduces discomfort. We can also use a topical numbing cream before your injections if needed.
Which filler is best for lips?
We’ll help you choose a suitable lip filler before your treatment. Restylane Silk is a popular option for the lips, as it features a small particle size and smooth gel formulation. It is specifically formulated for use on delicate lip tissues.
How much do injectable fillers cost in Portland, OR?
Treatment costs depend on several factors, including the filler used and the amount of product needed. We’ll provide a customized estimate for your treatment before we get started. Overall, injectable fillers are much more affordable than their surgical alternatives. Non-surgical treatments, like those offered at Key Laser, are very effective and typically much less expensive and risky than surgical treatments.
Are injectable fillers safe for the skin?
Most of our dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based. This substance is naturally found in the skin, eyes, and joints. Hyaluronic acid is biocompatible and very gentle on the skin. Allergic reactions are virtually nonexistent, and pre-treatment allergy testing is not needed.
How often will I need to receive injections?
Dermal fillers are long-lasting but do require occasional reinjection to maintain the results. Some fillers last longer than others. We’ll help you create a personalized treatment schedule. Most patients will need to visit our office every three to twelve months for retreatment.
Can I wear makeup after Juvederm? We advise you not to apply makeup directly to the areas of injection on the day of treatment. Makeup is very dirty and we don't want to risk infection of the area injected. Makeup and sunscreen can be used the following day. Can juvederm be reversed?Yes! If a patient has a persistent lump from Juvéderm or they don't like the look of the filler, it can be easily dissolved with an injectable enzyme called hyaluronidase. Does juvederm dissolve over time?Yes! The human body contains natural hyaluronidase which is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. Over time, the natural enzyme in the body breaks the filler down, which is why these fillers don't last forever. Does juvederm expand? Some fillers are more hydrophilic, meaning they take on water once injected and swell a bit. Does juvederm look natural?Juvéderm can absolutely look natural, depending on how much is injected, where it is injected and the injector's technique. Does juvederm soften up?When first injected, Juvéderm feels somewhat firm. You may feel a little lump if you press on your face right where it was recently injected. Over 2-3 weeks, it softens and feels just like your normal tissue. How long after Juvederm will I see results?Juvéderm provides immediate results. How long does Juvederm last?Duration of effect depends on the patient. All fillers have a duration specified in their FDA approval process which is more of an average duration. Depending on metabolism and other factors, Juvéderm can last for a shorter period or much longer period than the FDA approved duration. How painful are Juvederm injections? We use topical numbing for Juvéderm which reduces the pain of injection significantly. Should I massage juvederm lump?Do not massage the area for the first 2 days after injection. In most cases, lumpiness during this period is just swelling/inflammation. If lumpiness persists for more than 2 days, you can start massaging the area. We recommend warm compresses followed by a gentle massage three to five times daily. |
