Kybella® in Portland

Introducing Kybella to Portland and Beaverton Patients

Kybella®™ is an FDA-approved injectable treatment used for dissolving the submental fat under your chin, sometimes referred to as “turkey necks” or “double chins”.

While double chins are common, many adults report feeling bothered by the fullness of their neck and chin area. Often, that fullness can detract from an otherwise balanced and harmonious facial appearance, leading to an older and heavier look.

At Key Laser Institute, we understand how your neck or chin area can affect your confidence, which is why we provide Kybella treatments in the Portland area. Our goal is to help patients look and feel good about themselves. With Kybella, we can enhance your natural beauty and reduce the appearance of aging without covering it up.

Areas of Concern

When it comes to Kybella, the area of concern is truly centered around the chin and neck. By effectively destroying fat cells, Kybella may result in a noticeable reduction of fullness in that general area.

As the first and only injectable of its kind, Kybella is uniquely qualified to significantly and permanently reduce the profile of patients with moderate to severe fat specifically underneath their chin. Kybella has not yet been FDA-approved for use outside of the submental chin region.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella® uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body, to absorb and break down fat cell membranes. When injected into the submental fat under the chin, Kybella works by destroying fat cells and repairing facial muscle weakness. Once destroyed, those cells can no longer store fat, causing the chin and neck region to appear slimmer.

What You Can Expect During Your First Experience With Kybella

Kybella is a nonsurgical, minimally invasive treatment, meaning patients can enjoy their results without long-winded preparation or recovery periods. That being said, all surgical procedures and cosmetic treatments come with pros and cons, so understanding the journey from start to finish is essential to understanding the results you may expect.

Before Your Kybella Treatment

Although Kybella is a non-invasive, low-risk treatment option, patients considering it will still require a consultation to ensure safety and candidacy.

During this consultation, you may be asked about your current medical conditions, prescriptions, medical history, and result expectations. Your honesty with your provider regarding these questions will help ensure your safety during and after these cosmetic treatments. Once candidates receive approval, little preparation is involved, but patients are encouraged to schedule their appointments before any major events and thoroughly wash their faces before arrival

During Your Kybella Treatment

The Kybella procedure is relatively quick, usually lasting 15 to 20 minutes. After cleansing the treatment area, a Key Laser Institute professional will administer a numbing agent to ease discomfort. Roughly 20 to 50 deoxycholic acid injections are then inserted into the chin. Once injected, the solution begins to reduce excess fat around the injection area.

After Your Kybella Treatment

Patients are not required to take any downtime after Kybella, but they may experience some redness, swelling, and soreness afterward. For some patients, the effects of Kybella may become apparent within two hours and continue to improve for a while afterward. Results are long-lasting when patients maintain a healthy lifestyle, though future maintenance treatments may help keep the slimming effects of Kybella.

Results of Kybella

Slight results from Kybella are almost immediate, with slimming effects becoming apparent two hours after the procedure. Since swelling is the most common symptom of Kybella, it may take up to two weeks for significant results to appear. Depending on the extent of your chin fullness, you may have to undergo several sessions before you experience the best results from treatment. Typically, most patients only require one treatment round.

Minor side effects are usually apparent after the procedure but should not cause major discomfort. You should contact your provider if you experience any abnormal swelling or pain following the procedure.

FAQs About Kybella Treatments in Portland

Does Kybella Hurt?

Injecting a solution that immediately works to dissolve fat may seem somewhat scary. However, most Kybella patients report minimal pain involved in their procedure.

You may experience a slight stinging or burning sensation immediately following the procedure, but the sensation should subside after 20 to 30 minutes. Slight soreness and bruising may also be expected in the days following the procedure but should not last more than a few days to a week.

I’ve Heard Kybella Causes Significant Swelling — How Long Will the Swelling Last?

Minor to moderate swelling is a common side effect Kkybella. However, the swelling should not be severe or last more than one to two weeks.

Severe swelling, often described as having a “bullfrog” appearance, is rare with Kybella but can happen. These cases do not last and the swelling will resolve within a month.

How Long Do Kybella Injections Last?

The results of Kybella are permanent.

Once destroyed, the fat cells will not return. Conversely, Kybella does not eliminate all fat cells within the affected area. The remaining fat cells are still capable of storing fat and expanding with weight gain. A healthy, active lifestyle will ensure that the fantastic results from your Kybella treatment are long-lasting.

Is Kybella Worth the Money?

An investment in your appearance is an investment in your self-confidence.

At Key Laser Institute, we are in the business of improving the self-image and confidence of our patients, not needlessly taking their money. If we thought you were not a good candidate for Kybella or the treatment may not be worth it, we would recommend against it. Instead, we may suggest other treatments that achieve similar jaw-sculpting or chin-defining results.

Which Is Better for Reducing Chin Fullness — CoolSculpting or Kybella?

While both Kybella and CoolSculpting are effective fat reduction treatments, Kybella is better for targeting smaller areas such as the chin, whereas CoolSculpting works better on larger areas. Kybella also tends to have more impactful results with fewer treatments in a shorter amount of time than CoolSculpting.

If you’re unsure which option may be better for you, Dr. Key would be delighted to discuss this during your initial conversation. Our goal is to provide the best treatment possible for your preferences and needs.

When Will I See the Full Results of the Procedure?

Some patients experience noticeable results within two hours of the procedure. Due to swelling, these results may not become fully apparent until the swelling subsides.
