Causes of Unwanted Hair
From normal hair growth on the legs and arms to hormonal changes to certain medications, unwanted hair can have a variety of causes. No matter the cause, our clinicians at Key Laser Institute will help you finally say goodbye to unwanted hair for good.
How to Treat Unwanted Hair
BBL/IPL
Using broadband light energy, BBL directly targets the hair follicles, stopping their ability to grow hair and leaving you with smoother skin. This treatment works on most skin types and hair texture and is a completely non-invasive way to say goodbye to unwanted body hair.
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning uses a special razor to remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz from the face. While this won’t stop future hair growth, it can give you smooth, more rejuvenated skin quickly and easily.
YAG Laser
The YAG laser is particularly effective for removing unwanted hair on patients with darker skin tones. The laser targets the deep layers of the skin and hair follicles without harming the surrounding tissue, giving you the smoother, hair-free skin you desire.

Causes of Thinning Hair
Thinning hair can also have several different causes, including hormonal changes, genetics, certain medications, stress, and age. Luckily, with PRP, our clinicians can stop hair thinning in its tracks and help you regrow a thick head of hair.

PRP Injections
To address thinning hair, we recommend platelet-rich plasma injections. During PRP treatment, a small amount of your blood is drawn. It’s then placed into a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the rest of the white blood cells and red blood cells. The solution contains growth factors as well as platelets. The platelets (a type of blood cell that plays a role in healing) are then applied to the scalp, which will then stimulate new hair growth and protect the hair follicles from future hair loss.
Am I a Candidate Unwanted Hair and Thinning Hair Treatment?
Most patients who come to us looking to get rid of unwanted hair or address thinning hair are good candidates for treatment. Some of the criteria we look for in ideal candidates includes those who are in generally good health with realistic expectations and are either struggling with unwanted hair on their face and/or body or thinning hair.
What to Know about Treatments for Unwanted or Thinning Hair
Before Your Unwanted or Thinning Hair Treatment
Before laser hair removal, you’ll want to avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 2-4 weeks, shaving or waxing for 4 weeks prior to treatment, and retinoids, glycolic or salicylic acid, and other harsh treatments for 2-5 days beforehand.
For PRP, you’ll want to avoid blood-thinning medications, certain supplements like vitamin E and fish oil, alcohol and smoking, and caffeine for at least a week before treatment.
During Your Unwanted or Thinning Hair Treatment
The laser hair removal process is relatively straightforward. Your clinician will prepare the treatment area and then use your chosen laser treatment on your skin. You may feel a slight warmth or tingling sensation, but that’s about it. How long it takes will depend on the size of the treatment area.
For PRP injections, your clinician will start by drawing your blood. They’ll then place it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma. Once that’s prepared, they’ll apply the solution to your scalp.
After Your Unwanted or Thinning Hair Treatment
With both laser hair removal and PRP injection, you can go back to your normal routine immediately afterward, but there are a few things you’ll want to do post-treatment to achieve optimal results.
With laser hair removal, you will want to avoid direct sun exposure to the treatment area, moisturize your skin regularly, avoid strenuous activities, and avoid using exfoliating products.
After PRP, you’ll want to avoid touching your scalp, direct sun exposure, direct heat, and strenuous activity for the first 24-48 hours. You’ll also want to avoid washing your hair and hair products for 12-24 hours.
