Biocellular Regenerative Medicine
Opening the Doorway to Tomorrow
Biocellular medicine uses the natural regenerative cells within our skin to help heal skin aging and even stimulate new collagen formation to improve acne scarring. It may sound too good to be true, but within the unwanted extra fat around our middle are special cells rich in regenerative properties. These cells are called mesenchymal stem cells, and may well be your own “fountain of youth” for enhancing the treatment of skin aging. First, let’s get rid of the notion that fat is just fat, as nothing could be further from the truth. Fat is really adipose tissue, a complex structure that contains not just fat cells, but rich regenerative cells called mesenchymal stem cells.
Preparation of SVF (regenerative cells).
What can I expect?
Treatment begins with numbing a small area of excess fat that usually comes from the abdomen, hips, or thighs. Then, using a syringe called a “harvester” we aspirate about 20cc (less than 1oz) of fat. This aspirated fat can be put to use in several different ways. First, it can be used to treat the “hollowing” of the face, the sunken cheeks or the hollowed temples that happens to all of us as we grow older. This is often called a micro-fat, nano-fat, or ALMI fat transfer injection for gaining back a more youthful fullness to the face. Second, this type of injection can also be used to assist in hair regrowth in androgenetic hair loss or thinning.
In these types of treatments, there is a transfer injection of cellular mixture that has both your own fat cells as well as your own mesenchymal stem cells that are part of the adipose tissue. This cellular mixture is combined prior to injection with platelet rich plasma (PRP), which is derived from drawing blood and spinning out the plasma. PRP works as a healing messenger, letting the regenerative mesenchymal cells know they have work to do in regenerative repair!
Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) Injection for Skin Improvement
“You’re healing your own skin from within!” – L.M.
At Key Laser, we also use stromal vascular fraction (cSVF or SVF), which is a concentrate of your own mesenchymal stem regenerative cells from which the fat cells have been removed. This treatment begins the same way as other fat transfers, with a small volume of fat removed, commonly from the hip or abdomen. The fat is then spun in a specialized centrifuge to separate the SVF concentrate from the other adipose tissue. Although fat transfer injection has been part of facial aging treatment for many years, the use and isolation of SVF is what is new. This cellular concentrate is often combined with platelet rich plasma and used as an injection treatment to stimulate the growth of new collagen in acne scarring and aging lines and wrinkles. Like an ALMI fat transfer, this too helps certain hair loss conditions with stimulation of hair regrowth.
